CLC Hosts Veterans Day Event Friday

The community is invited to the College of Lake County's annual Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

The College of Lake County’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 in room C005 (C Wing Auditorium) on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

The ceremony’s keynote speaker will be Debra Lewis, who served 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman, retiring as a Hospital Corpsman First Class (E6).

Lewis served as a field medic, dermatology technician, instructor, recruiter and recruit division commander over her military career. She holds a B.S. in business administration from Columbia College of Missouri and is currently pursuing her M.A. in human resource development and leadership from Webster University. She works at Naval Station Great Lakes at Training Support Command as a command school coordinator.

Other speakers will include Colonel Mike Peck, superintendent of the Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission; Joel Chmara, CLC speech instructor; and Darl Drummond, CLC Vice President of Student Development.

Waukegan High School JROTC will present the colors and a Navy chaplain will provide a prayer. There will also be an open microphone portion of the program so that veterans in the audience can share their military experience.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, is being sponsored by the CLC Student Activities Program Board. It honors all veterans, and particularly CLC faculty, staff and students who are veterans of the armed forces.

For more information, call Dorsey Thomas, veterans retention specialist, at (847) 543-2338.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A JOB SKILL ?? YOU ARE BIG TIME ___________CAN'T SAY THE WORD HERE. COMPETING FOR LOW WAGE JOBS WITH ILLEGALS IS NO OPTION..IF WE DIDN'T HAVE MILLIONS OF ILLEGALS TAKING THE JOBS ?? WAGES WOULD BE HIGHER MAKING MANY JOBS A LIVING WAGE JOB.
ROOFING----HOME BUILDING---DRY WALLING--CONSTRUCTION --PLUMBING ARE JUST SOME OF THE JOBS VETS COULD DO IF THE WAGES WERE HIGHER.

Jose, I think we all know you have an issue with illegal immigrants, but this article wasn't about jobs or immigrants. There isn't a need to go to every article and comment about unrelated topics. They offer blogs here on patch...you obviously want a platform....take it.
