Trader Joe's is Coming to Libertyville
Groundbreaking on the store is set to take place in April, the Daily Herald reports.
When Libertyville Patch asked readers a week ago what they'd like to see in the old Frank's Nursery location that had already been designated as the home for a new grocery store, there was one name at the top of the wish list: Trader Joe's.
Well, your wish is coming true. Trader Joe's announced Wednesday that it will open a store in Libertyville in the old Frank's Nursery spot, the Daily Herald reported.
A sign at the property indicated that a grocery store would be built in that location.
"The developer is planning a grocery store there, but there has not been any announcement yet," Village Administrator Kevin Bowens told Patch last week.
Many readers last week told Patch that they'd love to see a Trader Joe's in town.
"I'd LOVE a Trader Joe's and think it will do well here in Libertyville," one reader said.
"We are hoping for a Trader Joe's as well—have been for many years," another reader commented.
According to the Daily Herald, groundbreaking on the new store is set for April.
This will be the second Trader Joe's store in Lake County, with one already located in Lake Zurich, the Daily Herald reports.

I feel bad for the Libertyville Jewel.
I am afraid that will be the final nail in their coffin.

I personally don't think that Trader Joes will hurt the Jewel that much. It is basically a different genre of food......we need more organic variety available.

Well, TJ has a way nicer and more affordable organic food variety than Jewel.

Jewel is still the place to go for produce and meat and decent parking. Trader joes will be a great addition though!

That being said, when Marianos moved in, Jewel had to get rid of a lot of employees. Granted the competition helped lower their prices but you never like to see people lose jobs en masse.

Jewel, Mariano's & now Trader Joe's will all be within a couple blocks of each other. I think that's a little much. How many grocery stores does one city need?

Score for Libertyville! Trader Joe's was missing in central Lake County, and I'm glad they chose OUR town for the location.... convenience and tax revenue! I view the proximity of the three food stores as a plus. They each have their own niche.

I don't see what all of the fuss is about. Trader Joes is okay, but I'm not jumping up and down on my couch over it. It is about 1/4 the size of Jewel and Marianos, so while it is a nice addition to the grocery stores in the area, I really can't see it as replacing them. Glad that Libertyville will get the tax revenue. We need it.

Jewel is more expensive and they do not stock their stores that reflect the change in peoples' tastes or clientele. They deserve to close if they cannot compete.
