Top Local Artists Get Place in Congress

Congressional award winning art work from area schools will adorn government offices, halls.

Acts of Congress are passed for a variety of reasons and for three award winning North Shore high school artists it means exposure for their creativity. D128 Student Artists Honored

Check out the 14th annual 4x5 art show featuring the works of District 127 students at Fremd High School in Palatine April 23-May 1.

Thirteen Community High School District 128 art students received honors in the 14th annual 4x5 Show held at Fremd High School in Palatine. More than 35 schools participate in the show with 1,300 pieces of artwork that are just 4 inches by 5 inches in size. The show will be on display at Fremd High School April 23-May 1, with an awards presentation and reception scheduled for May 1. Liberty Town Productions will present the musical version of the Louisa May Alcott classic this weekend.

Editor's Note: Liberty Town Productions will present the Broadway musical version of "Little Women" April 12-14. The cast of 15 will present performances of the musical version Louisa May Alcott's classic at 7:30 p.m. April 12 and 13 and at 2:30 p.m. April 13 and 14. Performances will be at the Libertyville High School Studio Theatre, 708 W. Park Avenue, Libertyville, via the building’s north entrance. Tickets for the Friday and Saturday evening performances are $25 for adults; adult matinee tickets are $20. Tickets for students under 21 with ID are $15 for all performances. Influential Film Critic, Roger Ebert, Dies

After a long battle with cancer, Ebert died Thursday, according to media reports.

Roger Ebert, the popular film critic who could weigh a movie's fate with a thumbs up or thumbs down, has died at age 70, according to media reports. The Chicago Sun-Times, the publication where Ebert reviewed movies for 46 years, reports Ebert died Thursday in Chicago following a long battle with cancer. Referring to Ebert as the nation's most influential and prominent film critic, the Sun-Times writes of Ebert's decades with the newspaper and also about the 31 years he spent reviewing movies on T.V. In a Sun-Times blog post on Tuesday, Ebert wrote he would be taking a "leave of presence" to deal with his health issues.  The "painful fracture" that made it difficult for me to walk has recently been revealed to be a cancer," Ebert wrote in …

I can say this, if Roger Ebert gave a movie thumbs down, I went to see it. Only because I was a young wipper snapper. In my ripe age of 40 (or 39 something) I will truly miss a Chicago icon such as him. Every time I would watch Gene and Roger I felt I was with them at the Highland Park movie theater.
