Hundreds Flock To Vernon Hills' National Night Out Event

It's not known exactly how many residents attended Vernon Hills' National Night Out event Tuesday night, but police can offer a ballpark figure.

Vernon Hills police, members of the Citizens Police Academy and other volunteers cooked and served about 700 hot dogs and 700 hamburgers to hungry event-goers at Hartmann Park.

Many of those guests also visited the police department's ice cream table, where 600 Klondike bars were free for the taking.

National Night Out featured inflatable attractions, face-painting, skill games, a DJ, free refreshments and pick-up soccer and volleyball games on the park's courts.
