Ballet Folklórico Nacional to Perform in Vernon Hills

July 31 performance is free and open to the public.

Cook Library will present the Ballet Folklórico Nacional of Milwaukee, at 6:15 p.m. July 31 in the Vernon Hills High School auditorium. This all-ages performance is free and open to the public; no registration is required.

As the highlight of the library’s full roster of summer programming, the Ballet Folklórico Nacional will bring regional Mexican dancing to vivid life. The Milwaukee-based troupe is an innovative, theatrical body of dancers committed to the preservation of “el folklore,” a rich manifestation of Mexican art and culture. The group was founded with the mission of promoting authentic Mexican dance. Performers range in age from 6 to adult.

Ballet Folklórico Nacional performances light up the stage with colorful depictions of Mexico’s diverse culture. The troupe offers an array of dances from different regions of Mexico, including Michoacan, Durango, Veracruz, Chiapas, Yucatan, Sonora, Norte, Oaxaca and Jalisco. Performers also present traditional Aztec dance as well as “floreo de soga,” trick-roping.
