Get Ready for GLMV Small Business Saturday, November 30

Small Business Saturday is an annual event that encourages holiday shoppers to give back to the community by shopping neighborhood stores and services.

This is a great opportunity for businesses to gain visibility and take advantage of promotions coming from American Express (founder of the event) and other big companies. This year, AmEx offers card users a $10 bill credit on one transaction at any number of small businesses on November 30.

Here are some steps to help businesses get ready for the big day of shopping small.

1. Plan in-store events or special offers, serve refreshments or have entertainment to give your business some extra-festive appeal, along with discounts or giveaways to pull in shoppers already seeking small businesses. See the AmEx site for videos about creative ideas tried by local businesses last year.

2. Coordinate with other businesses in the neighborhood on signage, sidewalk events and special offers. See American Express's list of 10 ideas for neighborhood promotion. One idea: Each shop agrees to give a discount to any customer who shows a receipt from another neighborhood shop. Find other interested businesses in your area on the Mightybell community website.

3. Remember to keep your website and social media sites updated with current photos and content!

4. Promote, promote, promote your special offers and participation!!

Visit shopsmall.com to register your business and gain access to the Shop Small marketing materials kit.
