Vernon Hills Cops Support Toys for Tots

Vernon Hills Police Department drop-off location for Toys for Tots.

Information submitted by the Vernon Hills Police Department.

From now through Dec. 16, the Vernon Hills Police Department will again be a drop-off location for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. Last year, we had an overwhelming response and we’d like to repeat that again this year – or beat it.

All kinds of toys can be donated. The Marine Corps will distribute according to age. Some ideas for older children include sporting equipment/bags/balls, books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watch/wallet gift sets, bath gift sets, board games, radio control cars/trucks, hand-held electronics, skateboards/helmets, curling irons, hair straighteners, and hair dryers, a press release states.

The Toys for Tots program accepts new, unwrapped items. Realistic looking weapons or gifts with food will not be accepted.  If donated, such items will NOT be distributed.

Naturally, the drop-off box at the police facility is available 24 hours a day.  However, the Vernon Hills Village Hall and the Vernon Hills Public Works facility are also drop-off locations.  Visit www.vhpd.com for the hours these additional boxes are accessible.

“It’s unfortunate that any child should have to go through the holidays without experiencing the joy of receiving something,” state Police Chief Mark Fleischhauer in a press release. “We hope that many residents will take advantage of the convenience and drop off a toy to brighten some child’s holiday.”

Anyone with questions should call the Vernon Hills Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at 847-247-4889.
