Vernon Hills Summer Celebration Loses Longtime Volunteer

Sue Suchsland "volunteered right up until the end."

Vernon Hills’ Summer Celebration committee lost a longtime volunteer last week.

Sue Suchsland, who had volunteered for 24 years, lost a battle with cancer July 2.

“She will be missed as a friend and dedicated volunteer,” said Vernon Hills Village Manager Mike Allison, who serves on the event committee.

Suchsland, who worked year-round to help plan the annual event, "volunteered right up until the end," Allison said.

“When everyone was enjoying the food, concert, and beverages, Sue was working to coordinate the finances for the event, including the cash needed for on site sales. Her work for the committee took place during the event and throughout the year,” he said.

Allison said a park bench will be installed at Century Park, where Summer Celebration takes place, in Suchsland’s memory.

A fund has been established in her name at First Midwest Bank for her sons, Ryan and Kyle, Allison said.
