Have a Medical Condition? Pick Up a Yellow Dot in Vernon Hills!

Vernon Hills police remind residents that they can pick up Yellow Dot kits from the police station.

In the moments directly following a crash, seconds count. The best chance for survival following a traumatic injury occurs when those injured are seen and treated within an hour.

In late 2011 the Illinois Department of Transportation launched a program to alert first responders of the driver's (or passenger's) medical condition. The Illinois Yellow Dot Program is a simple booklet the driver fills out and puts in the glove box of their car. A yellow dot decal is put in the back window (on the driver's side), which will alert the responders to check the glove box for important medical information.

Listed in the booklet will be a photograph of the person with the medical condition, their personal information, primary physical state, recent surgeries or other alerts.

These packages are being distributed statewide through county health departments. However, as a convenience to residents, the Vernon Hills Police Department continues to be a pick-up location for the packets. The packets are available 24 hours a day at the Vernon Hills Police Department, 740 Lakeview Parkway.

This program is free of charge to all Illinois residents.
