Police Blotter: Boy Caught with Knife at VHHS; Retail Theft Arrests

The Vernon Hills Police Department reports arrests from Oct. 13-19.

These incidents were among the official reports of the Vernon Hills Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

Alcohol

Nicholas J. Gajewski, 24, of 1444 Nottingham Drive No. 5G, Mundelein, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 13 near Route 45 and Sullivan Drive. He was also cited for BAC over .08 and improper lane usage. He was released on his drivers license and $100 cash pending a Nov. 6 court date.

Criminal Trespass

Jesse G. Escobar, 22, of 14 Crestview Lane No. 7, Vernon Hills, was charged with criminal trespass Oct. 19 at Sunglass Hut, 115 Hawthorn Center. He was released on a notice to appear in court Nov. 14. 

Possession of a Controlled Substance

Justin R. Dyrkacz, 24, of 205 W. Kenilworth, Prospect Heights, was charged with possession of a controlled substance Oct. 18 on the 1100 block of Corporate Woods Parkway. He was also cited for unlawful uses of a weapon, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they found hypodermic needles, heroin, brass knuckles and a homemade cooker in his vehicle. He was remanded on $35,000 bond pending an Oct. 24 court date.

Retail Theft

Caryn P. Hauck, 30, of 941 Ridgefield Lane, Wheeling, was charged with retail theft Oct. 15 at Torrid, 701 N. Milwaukee Ave. No. 184. Police said she admitted to taking nearly $626 worth of clothing from the store. She was released on $150 cash bond pending a Nov. 6 court date.

A man and woman were charged with retail theft Oct. 16 after police said they left Target, 313 E. Townline Road, without paying for nearly $420 worth of electronics. Arrested were: Charles M. Borkowski, 44, of 4300 W. Lake St. No. 102B, Glenview; and Robyn J. Frank, 43, of 4300 W. Lake St. No. 402B, Glenview. Both were released on $1,500 recognizance bonds pending a Nov. 5 court date.

Tamara L. Dillon, 24, of 1107 Cardinal Drive, Zion, was charged with retail theft Oct. 17 at Sephora, 411 Hawthorn Center. Police said she left the store without paying for $91 worth of cosmetics. She was released on $120 cash bond pending a Nov. 14 court date.

Zagary Gonzalez, 37, of 4145 Douglas Drive, Zion, was charged with retail theft Oct. 17 at JC Penney, 4 Hawthorn Center. Police said she left the store without paying for $111 worth of clothing. She was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond pending a Nov. 7 court date.

Jeffrey M. Pietka, 27, of 909 Sparta Court, Vernon Hills, was charged with retail theft Oct. 18 at Macy's, 1 Hawthorn Center. Police said he left the store without paying for clothing. He was released on $150 cash bond pending a Nov. 11 court date.

Violetta Press, 50, of 345 Bloomfield Court, Vernon Hills, was charged with retail theft Oct. 19 at Kohl's, 235 N. Milwaukee Ave. Police said she left the store without paying for $40 worth of jewelry. She was released on a notice to appear in court Dec. 12.

Unlawful Use of Weapon

A 15-year-old boy was charged with unlawful use of a weapon Oct. 16 at Vernon Hills High School, 145 S. Lakeview Pkwy. Police said he had a knife on school property. He was referred to juvenile court.

Warrant

Jacques H. Yezeguielian, 77, of 425 Benjamin Drive No. 410, Vernon Hills, was arrested Oct. 16 on a Lake County warrant for resisting a police officer. He was turned over to the Lake County Jail.
