Police Blotter: Criminal Damage, Retail Theft Arrests

The Vernon Hills Police Department reports arrests from Jan. 7-11.

These incidents were among the official reports of the Vernon Hills Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

Alcohol

John D. Winegardner, 44, of 11 University Circle, Hawthorn Woods, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Jan. 10 near Port Clinton Road and Route 45. He was also cited for BAC over .08, not having insurance and driving left of center. He was released on his drivers license and a $1,000 recognizance bond pending a Feb. 6 court date.

Michael K. Jacobson, 69, of 4884 Tall Pines Road, Florence, WI, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Jan. 10 on the 900 block of South Milwaukee Avenue. He was also cited for BAC over .08 and improper lane usage. He was released on a $3,000 recognizance bond pending a Feb. 6 court date.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Jan. 11 on the 100 block of West Townline Road. He was released on a $3,000 recognizance bond.

Battery

John V. Austwick, 49, of 909 Hillside Drive, Mundelein, was charged with battery Jan. 8 at the Beer Market, 1270 S. Milwaukee Ave. He was released on a notice to appear in court Feb. 14.

Criminal Damage to Property

Li Su, 22, of 22 Lindon Lane, Vernon Hills, was charged with three counts of criminal damage to property Jan. 11 on Lindon Lane. Police said he damaged items on his neighbor's property on three occasions. He was released on a notice to appear in court Feb. 14.

Retail Theft

Nicholas B. Waters, 19, of 2119 W. 20th St., North Chicago, was charged with retail theft Jan. 7 at JC Penney, 4 Hawthorn Center. Police said he left the store without paying for $80 worth of shoes. He was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond pending a Jan. 21 court date.

Victor S. Wright, 18, of 430 Pine Lake Circle, Vernon Hills, was charged with retail theft Jan. 9 at Kohl's, 235 N. Milwaukee Ave. Police said he left the store without paying for just over $144 worth of clothing. He was released on $160 cash bond pending a Jan. 24 court date.

Jason F. Edwards, 35, of 521 N. Wille St., Mount Prospect, was charged with retail theft Jan. 10 at JC Penney, 4 Hawthorn Center. Police said he left the store without paying for $215 worth of clothing. He was released on a notice to appear in court Feb. 14.

Alexander L. Spencer, 21, of 1974 Sheila St. No. 2, Woodstock, was charged with retail theft Jan. 11 at Sears, 2 Hawthorn Center. Police said he left the store without paying for just over $340 worth of tools. He was remanded on $25,000 bond pending a Jan. 15 court date.

David Robert McGhie, 45, of 14411 Kishwaukee Valley Road, Woodstock, was charged with retail theft Jan. 11 at Sears, 2 Hawthorn Center. Police said he left the store without paying for almost $199 worth of tools. Police said he then returned the tools for a merchandise credit. He was held for a bond hearing.
