Police Blotter: Criminal Damage to Property, Retail Theft Arrests

The Vernon Hills Police Department reports arrests from Oct. 5-14.

These incidents were among the official reports of the Vernon Hills Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

Alcohol

Jorge L. Martinez, 32, of 120 S. Elmwood, Waukegan, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 8 on the 100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. He was also cited for BAC over .08 and speeding. He was released on his drivers license and a $1,000 recognizance bond pending a Nov. 6 court date.

Jose Hernandez, 23, of 217 E. Lakeside Drive, Vernon Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 5 near Hawthorn and Lakeview Parkways. He was also cited for BAC over .08. He was released on his drivers license and a $1,000 recognizance bond pending an Oct. 23 court date.

Brandon L. Arkush, 24, of 1100 Emerson Place, Vernon Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Oct. 12 near Greenleaf and Tennyson. He was also cited for BAC over .08, improper lane usage, improper right turn and having only one headlight. He was released on his drivers license and a $1,000 recognizance bond pending a Nov. 6 court date.

Criminal Damage to Property

Jason D. Chapa, 29, of 1054 Cumberland Court, Vernon Hills, was charged with criminal damage to property Oct. 14 on the 1000 block of Cumberland Court. He was also cited for resisting arrest and aggravated battery. He was taken to a bond hearing.

Retail Theft

Stewart R. Horwitz, 58, of 323 Southgate Drive, Vernon Hills, was charged with retail theft Oct. 9 at Kohl's, 235 N. Milwaukee Ave. Police said he left the store without paying for just under $152 worth of air fresheners and clothing. He was released on $120 cash bond pending a Nov. 14 court date.

Jeffrey G. Nelson, 26, of 826 N. Milwaukee Ave. Unit B, Libertyville, was charged with retail theft Oct. 10 at Sears, 2 Hawthorn Center. Police said he admitted to taking items from three stores and then returning or attempting to return the items for store credit. He was also cited for attempted retail theft. He was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond pending an Oct. 30 court date.

Three teenage boys were charged with retail theft Oct. 14 at Walmart, 555 E. Townline Road. Police said the boys left the store without paying for nearly $273 worth of video games, an air gun and BBs. Each of the boys was also cited for possession of stolen property. They were released on a notice to appear in court Nov. 14. 

Theft

Efrain X. Rivera, 22, of 1009 Helmolz, Waukegan, was charged with theft Oct. 9 at CDW, 200 Milwaukee Ave. Police said he took an iPad worth $329 from the business. He was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond pending an Oct. 28 court date.
