Police Blotter: Retail Theft; Aggravated Assault

The Vernon Hills Police Department reports arrests.

These incidents were among the official reports of the Vernon Hills Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that decision.

Alcohol

Ricardo Gonzalez, 24, of 930 Westmoreland Drive, No. 22, Vernon Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol June 14 near Route 45 and Evergreen Drive. He also was cited with following too closely, not having insurance, not having a driver’s license and DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08. He was released on $300 cash bond pending a July 11 court date.

Criminal Damage to Property

A 17-year-old boy was charged with two counts of criminal damage to property June 13 on Monterey Drive. Police said he broke windows on his mother's home. He also was cited with possession of drug paraphernalia, theft, disorderly conduct and possession of tobacco by a minor. He was referred to juvenile court.

Aggravated Assault

Yonik Meneses, 20, of 725 Westmoreland Drive, No. 301, Vernon Hills, was charged with aggravated assault June 13 near Grosse Pointe Boulevard and Route 45. He also was cited with disorderly conduct. Police said he approached an individual while displaying a knife. He was held for a bond hearing.

Retail Theft

Kyle P. Ryan, 18, of 721 Wood Creek Court, Island Lake, was charged with retail theft June 13 at Sears, 2 Hawthorn Center. Police said he took a watch valued at a little less than $25. He was released on $120 cash bond pending a July 12 court date.

Lidia K. Bielat, 46, of 152 N. California Ave., Mundelein, was charged with retail theft June 15 at Macy's, 1 Hawthorn Center. Police said she left the store without paying for $185 worth of clothing. She was released on a $150 cash bond pending a July 9 court date.

Ian Smith, 20, of 1221 Ashbury Lane, Libertyville, was charged with retail theft June 16 at Carson Pirie Scott, 3 Hawthorn Center. Police said he took a pair of sunglasses valued at $32. He was released on $120 cash bond pending a July 12 court date.
