Police Blotter: Retail Theft, Criminal Damage to Property

The Vernon Hills Police Department reports arrests from Jan. 17-20.

Alcohol

Kenneth T. Siegel, 49, of 2020 Lincoln Park West, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol Jan. 20 near Milwaukee Avenue and Route 45. He was also cited for improper lane usage and failure to signal. He was released on his drivers license and $100 cash bond. His court date was not available.

Criminal Damage to Property

A 15-year-old boy was charged with criminal damage to property Jan. 17 on the 1000 block of Sanctuary Court. Police said he broke a cell phone. He was released on a notice to appear in court Feb. 14.

Retail Theft

Two individuals were charged with retail theft Jan. 18 at Macy's, 1 Hawthorn Center. Arrested were: Edwin Juarez, 32, of 3055 George, Waukegan; and Carlos Cruz, 43, of 427 N. County, Waukegan. Police said they took merchandise from the store while working there as the cleaning crew. Cruz was also wanted on a Lake County warrant for failure to appear. Cruz was remanded on $15,000 bond pending a Feb. 6 court date. Juarez was released on a $5,000 recognizance bond pending a Feb. 6 court date.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with retail theft Jan. 18 at Macy's, 1 Hawthorn Center. Police said he left the store without paying for just over $357 worth of clothing. He was referred to juvenile court.

Traffic

Matthew S. Piazza, 27, of 1507 Frank Ave., Deerfield, was charged with not having a valid drivers license Jan. 18 near Main Street and Buffalo Grove Road. He was also cited for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane usage and failure to signal. He was released on a $1,500 recognizance bond pending a Feb. 14 court date.
