Sychta Retires as Vernon Hills Seniors Organization President

Vernon Hills resident Ed Sychta was honored by Village President Roger Byrne for his years of service.

When Ed Sychta decided it was time to retire after 16 years as president of the Vernon Hills Seniors Organization, village officials wouldn't let him leave without a little fanfare.

Vernon Hills Village President Roger Byrne honored Sychta at the Feb. 19 Village Board meeting, where he praised Sychta by reading a proclamation detailing his efforts. He also presented Sychta with a plaque.

The Vernon Hills Seniors Organization was established in 1995. Sychta took the helm two years later. During his tenure, the organization increased its activities, grew its membership, boosted its fundraising efforts to support area non-profits and coordinated the move to the current senior center in 2002, Byrne said.
