Very Punny, Chief

Vernon Hills Police Chief Mark Fleischhauer weighs in on his department's St. Baldrick's Day fundraiser.

As hair begins to grow back in Vernon Hills, donations continue to come in on behalf of the volunteers who had their heads publicly shaved for charity this month.

The St. Baldrick’s Day event, held March 9 at Westfield Hawthorn mall, was organized by the Vernon Hills Police Department. The event had raised more than $15,000 as of last week, surpassing the department’s $10,000 goal, Police Chief Mark Fleischhauer said.

“It just goes to show what we can do when everyone puts their heads together,” said Fleischhauer — who was not among this year’s shavees — to the amusement of other officials at the Village Board meeting.

Donations are still being accepted online.
