Bears Topple Packers in Battle of the Backups on Monday Night Football

Josh McCown has a good night in Marc Trestman's offense. Bears are now 5-3.

With Jay Cutler out due to a groin injury, Josh McCown lined up under center to lead the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in Green Bay against the hated Packers and Aaron Rodgers.

But Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was forced to leave the game in the first quarter after he was pulled down from behind by Bears defensive end Shea McClellin while scrambling. Rodgers hurt his left shoulder and didn't return.

The Bears emerged with a win 27-20 victory, racking up 442 yards of total offense in a roller-coaster game.

The Bears took a 17-10 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, the Packers took a 20 to 17 lead with backup quarterback Seneca Wallace running the offense. But the Packers relied on their special teams — recovering an onside kick — and their running game, led by Eddie Lacey.

McCown tossed two touchdown passes, with 22 completions on 41 attempts for 272 yards compared to Seneca Wallace's 11 for 19 performance, one interception (snagged by Julius Peppers) and 114 yards — and no touchdowns.

In the post-game, analysts were giving a lot of credit to head coach Marc Trestman's quarterback-friendly offense and the confidence he placed in the players to execute on their arch-rival's turf without Cutler.

The Bears are now in a three-way tie with the Detroit Lions and Packers at 5-3 for first place in the division.
