ALCOHOL Patricia M. Dionesotes, 55, of 1539 Richmond St., Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, violation of minimum speed and improper lane usage May 19 at Route 83 and Westmoreland Drive, where police said she was driving 15 miles per hour under the speed limit. Her court date is June 12 in Waukegan. Sarah E. Cho, 24, of 260 Biros Lane, Round Lake, was charged with driving under the influence, improper right turn, driving with a blood-alcohol content above .08 and improper lane usage May 19 at Townline Road and Aspen Drive. The first-degree murder trial of Ronald Stolberg got underway Monday.
A wrongful death suit has been filed against a former Vernon Hills man accused of killing his wife in June 2011, allegedly because she interrupted his sleep. Ronald Stolberg, 49, is charged with four counts of murder. Jury selection was to begin Monday, reported the Daily Herald. Suggesting she was murdered for her money, the family of victim Rachel Stolberg is seeking damages of more than $150,000, according to the Daily Herald. While he was out on bond, Ronald Stolberg allegedly sold the couple's home and attempted to take money out of the victim's bank account, reported the Lake County News-Sun.

Members of the Vernon Hills Police Department will join representatives from law enforcement agencies across Illinois in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on Sunday, June 9. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. The annual intrastate relay and its various fundraising projects have two goals: to raise money and to gain awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois. The Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised nearly $28 million over 27 years while increasing awareness of Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their accomplishments. Vernon Hills police officers will climb onto the roof of Dunkin' Donuts May 31 to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics of Illinois. Customers at the donut shop will be greeted by the officers from above between 5-9 a.m. that morning. Those who donate money to the Special Olympics will receive a coupon for a free doughnut or coffee. This is the sixth year for the "Cops on the Rooftop" event in Vernon Hills, which has raised more than $5,776 in the last five years. It is also the second of three main efforts this year by the police department to raise money for the cause. Lake County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Shanes is standing by the 47-year sentence imposed on former Deerfield resident Daniel Baker, reported the Lake County News-Sun. Baker, who did not appear in court Friday for the hearing, was convicted last November of using a baseball bat to bludgeon to death 50-year-old Marina Aksman, of Vernon Hills, after she encouraged her daughter, Kristina, to break up with him, reported Patch. Judge Shanes also would not reconsider the finding that Baker was mentally fit to understand the court proceedings, according to the News-Sun. A teenage Willow Creek Community Church volunteer has been charged with molesting an 8-year-old boy, the Daily Herald reports. Officials say 19-year-old Robert Sobczak of Hoffman Estates was volunteering in a care center for special-needs children when the molestation occurred. If convicted, he could face three to seven years in prison, the newspaper reports. Willow Creek is headquarted in South Barrington, with campuses in Northfield, Crystal Lake, Huntley, Chicago and West Chicago.
Submissions are due May 27. Selected artwork will be used on promotional materials for this summer's "Run from the Cops" 5K.

The Vernon Hills Police Department is looking for children's artistic touches as it plans this year's 5K run/walk fundraiser. The department's race committee is seeking original artwork from any student in kindergarten through eighth grade that can be used on posters, flyers and other promotional materials. This year will mark the sixth year "Run from the Cops" event. The proceeds from the July 21 run/walk will benefit Honor Flight Chicago, an organization dedicated to honoring our nation's World War II veterans.
