Poll: Do You Agree With President Obama's Gun Control Proposals?

President Obama presented several proposals for increased gun control this week.

President Obama made several proposals for increased gun control this week. Among the president's proposals were background checks for all gun sales, even those by private sellers, reinstating and strengtening the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, the New York Times reported. The White House's entire 15-page proposal can be downloaded here. We also attached video of the president discussing the plan to this post. Other aspects of the plan include putting 1,000 more school resource officers and counselors in schools and improving mental health services. RB, excellent point---these gun fans keep bring up totally unrelated facts to try to equal gun deaths---very lame. But even if they had a good point it still doesn't excuse the use of guns as they are in the US today. Why do we even remotely let kids get their hands on guns---maybe cause we have too damn many to begin with??   more ›

Walmart, Dick's Pull Some Firearms After Newtown Shooting

The Newtown school shooting has spurred some retailers to suspend gun sales.

Christmas shopping for the outdoorsman may be a little different this year. Walmart pulled from its shelves a Bushmaster rifle that's in the same group of guns as the one reportedly used by the gunman in the Dec. 14 shootings at in Newtown, Conn., according to media reports. There are Walmart stores in many local communities, including Lake Zurich, Palatine, Vernon Hills and Wheeling. It’s unclear if the chain suspended sales of any other sporting rifles. Searches for “modern sporting rifle,” "semi-automatic rifle” and “bushmaster” displayed guns for sale in stores only. But when checked for availability, all showed as "out of stock." Grayslake to Light the Night for Newtown

Join Grayslake in showing support for the victims of the Newtown school shooting by placing a candle on your porch from 7-9 p.m. tonight.

To show their support for the 26 victims lost to Friday's school shooting in Newtown, CT., Grayslake residents will be placing a candle (real or flameless) on their porch from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight (Monday). The suggestion was posted on the Grayslake Patch Facebook by resident Jennifer Heavrin and has since received 100 "Likes" and 85 shares. Libertyville, Vernon Hills School Officials and Residents React to Newtown, CT Shooting

The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School left 27 people dead, including 20 children, according to Newtown Patch.

Local residents and school leaders are expressing their sympathy for the children and families impacted by the Newtown, CT, school shooting that left 27 people dead, including 20 children. "Our hearts break for parents, classmates and staff in Newtown, CT, today," said Robin Smith Kollman, spokeswoman for Libertyville Elementary District 70. A reader on the Libertyville Patch Facebook page commented: "God bless the children around the world!" I feed sad obviously.. kids that won't have a chance to be grown ups and have kids of their own..is sad, i wish i could of been there as an armed security guard , i would of giving my life to protect those kids...A very sad day in America..
